Evolution of an Alien Abduction

I can't tell you how many times they've come for me. But I've been abducted since childhood. And thank god I can't remember most of it.

Why me? What's happening to me?
Why are they coming for me?

Who are they anyway?

The fear of being crazy overwhelmed me at first. I mean most people don't think they are being abducted by aliens.

Many nights I don't want to fall asleep for fear that they'll come for me.
When they do, I wake up paralyzed but aware. And there's a strange sound in my ears. It's hard to describe unless you've heard it. Kind of a cross between a buzzing bee and the fizzing sound of cola in the can. It always starts that way and then it all goes blank.

It's disrupting my life. Don't know who I am anymore. And forget about having a wife or a family. I don't have a life! Only this quest to know the truth of what's happening.

One night after a few beers and cigarettes the frustration welled up in me. I couldn't take it anymore. And felt completely mad pacing the room, yelling up at the ceiling.

"Who are you!?...What do you want from me!?
I know you can hear me!
I want some answers!...Now!!!"

Nothing happened for several long hours.
Then somewhere around 3 am she appeared. At least I think it was a she. Could also be a he I suppose. But the voice was feminine. Totally not what I was expecting. Thought it'd be a slimy creature or a grey alien like they show on TV.

She looked more like sparkling blue and white light in the form of a person.
And I could see what looked like data or thoughts flowing throughout her form. Almost like a humanoid with streaming internal computer data.

"Hello James" she spoke.
My brain had a hard time comprehending it. And for a second I wished I hadn't seen her.

"Shit...um...hello. How do you know my name? and who the hell are you?" I asked half believing this was a mental delusion.

"I am about to reveal many things to you.
At any point, you may stop me if it's too much. Later you can have your memories erased the way you did last time. Or you can choose to remember this. Do you understand?" Her voice was strangely calming to me.

"Yeah, Ok start talking. I want to know what's going on. And what do you mean by 'memories erased'?" I asked.

"James you're part of a species evaluation program. Your DNA was selected because you have a certain gene sequence." She said.

"You're different. It's something you've felt your whole life. Your brain works differently. It's like you're going at light speed when everyone around you is crawling."

It's true I had felt something was very weird about me.

"We first came for you when you were three and each year there after. Later at eighteen we spoke with you consciously about the program. And you consented to participating, but only if you could have the memories erased. So you'd have a normal life."

"Normal! geez this ain't normal. All I'm thinking about are aliens zapping me in the night. If this is really true why are you studying me?"

"We are studying many people on Earth in this time, to learn about our own origins. We've traced our split on the human evolution tree to a development of a new species which initiated around the year 2012. " She paused.

"This spontaneous evolution sparked a lot of debate for our scientist. And with our technology we're able to occasionally merge back into your time.
I'm a data collector gathering information for our scientists to study."

"You said you 'split' from the human tree. But you're not human!"

"Well actually I am. And in my time period humans all look like I do. They no longer are the same as you are now. So we come here to study you, and those like you, in an attempt to understand our own evolution."

There was a long pause as I couldn't think of what to say. Cause It was hard to go from the concept that aliens were abducting me...to think that future humans were observing me as some sort of genetic specimen.

"We have spoken in detail about this before. " she said.
"Yeah but I don't remember it. So what happens now?" I asked her.

"Well I'll shift back into my Earth time and we'll return periodically to gather data. The 'abductions' as you call it will continue but you can choose to remember or forget."

I looked at the blue and white 'person' in front of me. And I could see she was observing me and collecting data as we spoke.

"Geez, Ok fine. I'll remain in this program as you call it. But this time no memory erasing. At least I'll feel more sane if I can understand what the hell is going on. It's kinda cool to think some future race of humans is interested in me and my life."

"Yes James, and by the way, It's ok for you to have a life and a relationship. Might make the data collecting more interesting." She joked as she evaporated in front of me.

I realized then that I'd forgotten to ask her name. And for the first time I was actually looking forward to the next 'abduction' experience.
